Much fun will be had in Northwest Arkansas as the region hosts a number of unique fundraisers and events in the coming weeks. Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art will celebrate the art of crochet with a special "Art by the Glass" session. Fundraisers will include the Teen Action and Support Center's "All in for Teens," and the YMCA's "Frostbite Family 5k. The month will round out a "Fairytales" concert presented by SoNA.
Art by the Glass
Crystal Bridges will spotlight the art of crocheting at this month's Art by the Glass Crochet Bouquet with Gina Gallina" on Jan. 30.
Local master crochet artist Gallina will lead the evening of "wine and fibers." Guests will create their own small crochet object. Gallina will introduce basic methods of crochet for beginners. Advanced crocheters are also welcome and invited to create more complex pieces.
Tickets are $36 for members and $45 for non-members. All materials are provided. Two glasses of wine are also included with registration. Art by the Glass is open to those age 21 and up. The session will be held at Crystal Bridges from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration can be completed online or by calling Guest Services at 657-2335.
All in for Teens
The Teen Action and Support Center has upped the ante with its second annual "All in for Teens" fundraiser on Jan. 30. Hosted at the Cherokee Casino in Siloam Springs, the evening will include a fun night of gaming, specialty food and beverages, auctions, and live music.
Guests will have many to chances to win, with blackjack and poker games going on throughout the evening. Event games will be played for raffle drawing tickets. A live and silent auction will also be held. Up for grabs will be a number of gift certificates, a Shadow Valley golf package, a guitar autographed by One Republic, a Blakeman's Timepiece, and more.
TASC will serve up delicious food and drink samples for guests to enjoy. Live music will be provided by the band Chadwick. Doors will open at 7 p.m. Individual tickets are $75, with special discounts available on room and ticket packages. Guests must be 21 or older to attend.
All proceeds benefit TASC, which offers low-to-no-cost support services to Northwest Arkansas' teens and families. Its mission is "to empower teens to take action in their own lives and communities." For more information, call 636-8272.
Frostbite Family 5K
The Northwest Arkansas Family YMCA is changing it up a bit this year with its Frostbite Family 5K on Jan. 31. Formerly known as the "Tux on the Run Penguin Race," the event has been renamed and revamped to include a little something extra for participating families.
The event will be held at the Northwest Arkansas Family YMCA located at 5214 Village Parkway in Rogers. Registration will begin 9 a.m., with the race to follow at 10 a.m.
Prizes will be awarded for overall men’s and women’s divisions and age group trophies for male and female divisions for the 5k run. Special prizes will also be awarded for Best Frostbite attire, Best Snowman, and MOST dressed. New this year will be a Family Zone. Activities will include winter-themed games, photo booth fun, bouncy houses, and hot chocolate.
Registration is $30 and can be completed online. All proceeds from the race benefit the Financial Assistance program for the NWA Mercy Family YMCA, which provides aide to those who would like to be members or participate in YMCA programs. For more information, call 273-9622.
SoNA "Fairytales" Concert
It will be an enchanted evening filled with beautiful music as the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) hosts its latest Masterworks II concert entitled "Fairytales," on Jan. 31.
The latest installment in SoNA's 60th anniversary season, "Fairytales" will feature works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Khachaturian and Stravinsky that tell classic stories in a dramatic and compelling way. It will be held at Walton Arts Center’s Baum Walker Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Ticket holders are also invited to attend a "Creative Conversation" with Maestro Haas prior to the concert. It will be held in Starr Theater beginning at 6:45 p.m. Tickets range from $28-$50 and are available for purchase online. For more information, call 443-5600.
